It is pertinent to note that the existence of Mission Schools provide criteria for preference, curriculum selection and emphasis. As part of her mediating function and to perform it efficiently and as fruitful as possible, the Catholic Mission of the Diocese of Lafia in Nasarawa State like others in different parts of the country (Nigeria) established Our Lady of Apostles Girls’ College, Akwanga, Nasarawa State with the prerogative of satisfying the girl-child educational needs neglected long before now. The college, so to speak, has a long history dating back to 1955.

Our Lady of Apostles Girls’ College, AKwanga, popularly known as OLA Girls’ College has the approval of the Ministry of Education. Here, different examination bodies are accredited, notably, WAEC, NECO, JAMB, and NECO BECE.

The establishment of OLA Girls’ College was the brain child of the Catholic Mission in the days of his Lordship, the Late Bishop Readdington, and the first proprietor of the college. Since his glorious home call, the succeeding Bishops of Lafia Diocese assumed the proprietorship of the college.

To ensure that OLA Girls’ College keeps standard, the college is presently placed under the management of the School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND), an international Catholic Religious Congregation known for her dedicated zeal in the education of the girl-child. The SSND educate with the vision that, the world can be transformed through the transformation of persons. They equally believe that each individual is endowed with lots of potentials which, when drawn out, the individual in-turn, will direct his or her gifts towards building the earth.

Interestingly, OLA Girls’ College operates with boarding facilities that stand the taste of time.

Our Aim and Vision are to educate Girls’ to become women of integrity and competence, with knowledge and values......Aim/Vision/Anthem
